Election Commission defers transfer, posting of 12 IPS, 6 APS officers in Assam

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has deferred the transfer and posting of 12 Indian Police Service (IPS) and 6 Assam Police Service (APS) officers in poll-bound Assam.

The election commission on Friday announced the poll schedule for Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puduchery. The polls for 126-member Assam Assembly will be held in three phases this time. Voting for the first phase of the election will be held on March 27 and the last (third) phase on April 6. Votes for all phases will be counted on May 2.

In a statement issued by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Assam Nitin Khade stated that "The Commission vide its press note on 26th February, 2021, had announced the schedule of General Elections to Legislative Assemblies of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puduchery."

"With this announcement, the provisions of Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect, which includes a total ban on transfers/postings of all officers connected with the conduct of elections.
