Maharashtra reports 8,998 new Covid-19 cases, 60 fatalities
Maharashtra, the worst-affected state by the Covid-19 pandemic in India, reported 8,998 new cases of the virus on Thursday. According to data given by the health department, the state recorded 60 deaths due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
The number of Covid-19 patients discharged on Thursday was 6,135, which means that the number of active cases increased in the state.
The state's tally of Covid-19 cases has reached 21,88,183, with 85,144 active cases.
As per the health department data, the recovery rate in the state is currently at 93.66 per cent and the case fatality rate is 2.39 per cent.
On Wednesday, Maharashtra had reported the highest daily new cases at 9,855 since October 18.
According to the Union health ministry, Maharashtra, along with Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka, accounts for 85.51 per cent of fresh cases in India.
In view of the rising Covid cases in the state, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked the government hospitals to increase their bed capacity to last year's strength as a preventive measure.
