Users unanimously stated that they were misled: CBI on FB data theft by Cambridge Analytica, GSR

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked UK based Global Science Research (GSR) Limited and the Cambridge Analytica (CA) for Facebook data theft and violation of privacy of social media users. This is the first time in India that criminal investigation has been initiated against any company and its representatives for illegal data harvest.

In 2018, a complaint was filed by Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology with the CBI after a global uproar over violation of right of privacy of social media users.

A former employee of Cambridge Analytica turned whistleblower Christopher Wylie provided international publications with documents which showed how CA and GSR misused data of 87 million Facebook users.
