When 53-year-old Rajat Mondal was allegedly thrashed by his neighbours for feeding and giving shelter to stray dogs at his Sonarpur home in West Bengal last month, his only concern was how the animals would survive in the locked house during the period he was hospitalised.
However, a animal lover from New Alipore came to Mondal's rescue after being informed by locals of the plight of the dogs, according to a report in The Times of India. Meenakshi Pandeya volunteered to feed the strays herself after the animals were left to starve following the hospitalisation of Mondal, who was admitted for three weeks.
